St Josephs 2-15 Tyrrellspass 2-09
Our good start to the league continued with a second win in as many games after a hard fought encounter with Tyrrellspass on Sunday morning in Tyrrellspass. A stern test which either side could have won went our direction in what was a very competitive game. The games opening score came inside the first minute with Ros Elliffe on target and this was swiftly followed by two points in the 3rd and 5th minutes putting us three to the good. Our advantage was swiftly neutralised when Tyrellspass claimed the games opening goal in the 8th minute to level matters after a good passage of play. The home side added on two frees in the 10th and 11th minutes to take a two point lead. They added a point from play in the 15th minute extending their lead to three points. Jordan Mc Donnells long range free after 19 minutes reduced the arrears to two points and a point from play from the same source left the minimum between the teams after 20 minutes. We regained the lead a minute later when Ros Elliffe flicked home from close range for our first goal of the game putt St Josephs 1-5 to 1-3 ahead. Jake Gannon nailed a 45 in the 24th minute and Dylan Mc Donnells finish in a move instigated by Thomas Conlon left us 1-7 to 1-3 ahead at the break. Tyrrellspass started the second half on fire and hit three successive points in the opening two minutes of the half to come within a point of drawing level. Indeed they had genuine claims for an equaliser in the 3rd minute but it was deemed wide. A tight decision! St Josephs resettled with three quick points in the 4th, 5th and 6th minutes to move four ahead again courtesy of Dylan Mc Donnell (2) and Jordan Mc Donnell. Two further frees with one reply from Tyrrellspass left us 1-12 to 1-07 ahead as the game hit the three quarter stage. The game remained tight but St Josephs looked to have made the decisive break in the 23rd minute when Jordan got the final touch off a good move to get our second goal and move 2-13 to 1-08 ahead. That goal was cancelled out in the next phase of play with a goal from Tyrrellspass and when they got a point from play immediately afterwards, they were right back in it. However, it was St Josephs who finished stronger with two further points, the final score coming from Daniel Keegan as we ran out winners by six at the finish. Plenty of good performances in this game and also plenty of room for improvement but a satisfying result. Next game is against Milltownpass on Saturday 4th March at 4-00pm
