St Josephs GAA Notes (26/2/2022)

Seniors off to flying start in league:

St Josephs 4-12 Coralstown/Kinnegad 0-02

St Josephs Seniors got our league campaign off to a great start with a comprehensive win over Coralstown/Kinnegad’s second string at Kinnegad on Sunday. Conditions were blustery and cold at the venue but the pitch was in good order and from the start so were we as wind assisted, we hit the front early on. By the 11th minute St Josephs were 1-5 ahead with the opening goal coming from Dean Slevin. A second Slevin goal put clear daylight between the sides as the half progress and with St Josephs starting three debutants in Daniel Keegan,Ben Mc Donnell and Alan Conlon, we were deservedly ahead by 2-7 to 0-2 at half time. Coralstown/Kinnegad had the elements in the second half and did press hard in the opening minutes of the half but a combination of good defence from St Josephs and poor execution in attack meant they were regularly frustrated. The game was effectively decided in a two minute spell when successive goals fired home by Jordan Mc Donnell and Niall Moran left St Josephs ahead by 4-8 to 0-2 with 15 minutes gone in the second half. St Josephs added on four further points in the final quarter and introduced our full compliment of substitutes. Overall, a great start against opponents who never got to grips with our game on the day. Early days but promising! Next up will be against Mullingar Shamrocks in Springfield on Sunday 6th March with the game at 1-30pm.

There was a preliminary meeting held during the week with regard to planning a major fund raising event towards the latter end of 2022 with the aim of raising enough funds to finish off Phase 1 of the developments at the Community pitch. The meeting was organised by the Community Association and it is expected that a full announcement of the plans will be made very soon. Watch this space!
