St Josephs 0-14 Caulry 4-13

Our Under 17's lost out to Caulry in Mount Temple this evening in the Semi Final of the Division 2 Championship where the home side had a bit in hand at the finish of a game that was tightly contested until a controversial penalty ten minutes into the second half gave our opponents a healthy lead which they built on to the finish. St Josephs started this game well and in the opening phase the sides were well matched. Level at 0-2 apiece after ten minutes, we lost Frankie Day to injury which disrupted our play badly. We trailed by 0-3 to 0-2 at the first half water break and then conceded two goals in rapid succession to trail by 2-3 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. The lads showed great resilience to take the game to Caulry and scored five points on the trot to come back into contention and with two further points we were 0-9 to 2-6 behind at half time. Caulry got off to a good start to the second half with the first three points of the half to move 2-9 to 0-9 ahead. Again, we hit back with two points and the games defining score came ten minutes into the half when Caulry got a rather dubious penalty. At that stage the score stood at 0-12 to 2-11. The penalty put eight between the teams and despite our best efforts, the game became a bit disjointed and at the end our opponents won out by 11 points. Caulry are a strong side and certainly there is no shame in losing out to them in the semi final and it will take a good tea to beat them in the final. We wish them the very best in the final.
