Ladies Junior Championship

St Joseph’s Ladies V Clann Gaels

The ladies played their second group game in the Junior Championship last Saturday evening the 8th August against Clann Gaels in Streamstown. We knew it was going to be a tough challenge against a strong determined Clann Gaels outfit that needed a result to stay in this year’s competition after losing their first game and they were out of the traps fast and furious and registered a goal within the first minute. Our girls were on the back foot and conceded another point in the third minute to trail 1-01 to no score. We started to settle into the game and registered our first score in the fifth minute with a cracking team goal finished off from the ever-dangerous Roisin Kealy playing at full forward. Over the next 10 minutes Karen Keegan who had an immense game throughout kept the score board ticking over with 3 well taken points, 2 of them from frees. It was a beautiful sunny evening in Streamstown and by now the temperature was high on the pitch and it was not all down to the weather. Tackling was hard and this was developing into a techy affair, a real championship contest. A point from Lauren McDonnell and a goal and a point from Roisin Kealy put us in control heading for half time but Clann Gaels were not going away and came back with a well worked goal followed soon after by a point from play. The first half wrapped up with a goal from Erin Pettit, low and hard into the net.

Half Time with a score line of St Joseph’s Ladies 3-5 to Clann Gaels 2-2. The second half continued at the same frantic pace as the first half with Sinead Robbins opening the scoring for St Joseph’s Ladies with a smart point from play followed by a pointed free from Karen Keegan. It was the ninth minute before Clann Gaels opened their second half account with a point from a free. Karen Keegan added 2 more points to her tally in the final quarter and we had another point from Sinead Robbins. Clann Gaels threw everything at us in an effort to stay in the competition but our girls were up to the test and answered all the questions that were asked. Everyone was relieved to hear the final whistle and the game ended with a score line of St Joseph’s Ladies 3-10 to Clann Gaels 2-4.

St Joseph’s Ladies u12

Well done to the u12 girls on another superb display v Loughnavalley on Saturday morning the 8th August in Streamstown. The girls played super football running out comfortable winners in the end, on what was a very warm day. Next up is Shandonagh on Saturday 15th August

Victory for Under 15s

Our under 15 boys had an easy win over Inny Shamrock Gaels on Monday 3rd August at home in front of a full covid restricted capacity and they didn’t let the supporters down coming home with a 33 point victory. They played they socks off and showed everyone how they can play football, the game ended with a scoreline of St Joseph’s 6-21 Inny Shamrock Gaels 0-6.

Under 13 Boys Narrow Defeat

The u13 boys travelled to Kinnegad on Thursday the 6th August to play a strong Coralstown/Kinnegad side. They boys were with them from the first whistle to the last and never gave up. Both sides took some fantastic scores from all angles of the pitch. Unfortunately Coralstown/Kinnegad proved that small bit stronger and narrowly won the game. A final scoreline of St Joseph’s 3-06 and Coralstown/Kinnegad 4-07. They now face Milltownpass on Saturday 15th August in Milltownpass at 12.00pm.

Under 11 Boys Easy Winners

Our u11 boys put in a massive effort on Sunday the 9th August against our near neighbours Kilbeggan. This was their first game of the season and what a performance. While the scoreboard was tallying up for St Josephs, Kilbeggan hitting the crossbar was as close as they could manage. Our boys definitely had their shooting boots on as they clocked up a massive score. The boys showed great effort and skill in the game and the future for underage football in St Josephs is positively bright indeed.
