All County League Division 5

St Josephs 3-10Tubberclair 2-10

We completed our league campaign gathering our fifth win from seven outings with a hard fought three point win over Tubberclair on Sunday 5th May in Tubberclair. This victory leaves us at the top of Division 5 with our full compliment of games completed. It doesn’t mean we are promoted but other teams who have outstanding games have to catch us so time will tell how matters pan out. An evenly contested opening period saw both sides swap scores on a regular basis as the teams were level at 0-3 each by the 11th minute. The games opening goal came in the 14th minute with Jordan Mc Donnell firing home a neat finish to leave us 1-3 to 0-3 ahead. St Josephs moved 1-5 to 0-4 in front after 26 minutes and led by 1-5 to 0-5 at half time.  Tubberclair got the opening point of the second half to cut the gap to two points before we hit a purple patch with 2-2 in a four minute spell to lead by 3-7 to 0-8 by the 12th minute of the second half. The goals came from Ross Elliffe interspersed with points from Niall Moran and Brian Keegan. By the 21st minute St Josephs led by 3-8 to 0-10 and looked to have to points bagged but the home side hit back impressively with two goals in the 24th and 25th minutes to leave scores at 3-8 to 2-10. It should have been a momentum shifter but St Josephs are growing in confidence and ability and the final two points from Niall Moran and Jordan Mc Donnell left us with the league points from this encounter. No matter what happens the league season has been very positive and ends a very useful first half of the year and it will leave us in good form for the championship which does not start until July.
